Pray for David Warren

 David Warren at Essays in Idleness has always been my favorite blogger.  Notoriously cheap as I am, I did send him a donation.

Anyway, this latest entry  reads like a sign off, and I like this statement of belief:

The most superlative protection comes through making art. It is the natural expression of faith in action. The greatest threats come through bureaucrats and bureaucracies. I am for creative freedom, and voluntary acts, and against taxmen and oppressors.

Similarly, NGD said:  Man’s three enemies are: the devil, the state and technology.  

Two other books I have recently acquired

 The first book I have been stealing passages from and placing in this blog.  I heard of the book reading David Warren’s Essays in Idleness Blog.  The book, apparently, was an inspiration for the blog’s title.  To retire to a secluded hut in order to meditate, write and contemplate.  That would be a life…

The second book I also heard of from DW’s EiI blog. The other book of aphorisms I heard of thanks to EiI were those of NGD.

I got the books on Amazon.

 It’s July 1st in Canada. Here is what David Warren has to say about it.

England and USA and Belgium win their World Cup knockout matches today.  The African countries couldn’t hold their leads. T’wat a shame!

If we were truly a kind society…

 we wouldn’t be expecting government to be engaging in kind activities.  For to give up these activities is to give them to bureaucracies which is to put the devil in charge of them.  The people should just be kind themselves to the best of their abilities and circumstances.

These thoughts come to mind after reading the latest blog entry from David Warren.

 I wouldn’t quite label myself that, as David Warren did in his latest blog entry. But I agree with all the sentiments he expressed in that entry.  I would say I’m 80 percent of the label.

My favorite blogger wrote a Christmas entry. 

Warren had this to say about politics:

Nothing is ever achieved by politics, except mild disappointment, or sometimes major disappointment and catastrophe. The man who takes his politics seriously deserves this result. If one has acquired any idea about oneself, and one’s fellow human creatures, one knows that every human project will end in disaster. Sanctity offers the only strange exceptions. But without sanctity, democracy is merely a means to speed the disaster along.
