Three Objects

My reading glasses, one of my rosary beads, and an old sweater.

My father can be seen wearing the sweater in this photo taken with me in the 1990s.  I ended up with the sweater when my father sent it to me in a care package which he sent to me in China.  The sweater is now back in Brandon. Over the past weekend, I found it in a tub of my brought back from China clothes.  I wore the sweater to mass yesterday.  It is still in good condition.

The reading glasses I bought at Dollarama:  cheap but useful.  This morning, I couldn’t find them. I scoured the house.  And it annoyed me to no end.  But I suddenly spotted them on the floor in my bedroom.  They had somehow go stuck on my person. Taking off the old sweater caused them to fall to the ground. Go figure.

The beads I got from a lady in my RCIA. After finally finding the glasses, I decided to pray the Rosary.  I thanked God a little for having found the glasses, but I realized as well that prayer is a good way to get away from my small petty issues and concentrate on what is ultimately more important: to transcend worldly concerns.

12 days until the start of Christmas.

It’s

It’s also my favorite singer’s birthday:

I’ll listen to him in the car today.

I extended my Duolingo streak;

I got shoveling to do:

Polar Vortexes

 Or vortices.

I don’t remember there being polar vortexes when I was previously living in Manitoba.

I just remember days when it was very, very cold.

Nikon S3 Photos

If before I could take photos with my IPhones, I used my old Nikon digital camera:

I have decided to use it again.

I took a photo of the bank as I made a deposit today.

Above is a photo of Tony in Hong Kong at the Bruce Lee statue.

Below are pics taken at Hong Kong Disneyland:

A Tragically Hip Sweatshirt

 Tragically Hip Sweatshirt

Saw this in Walmart.  Brought back recollections.  I saw the band twice that I can remember.  Once at University of Winnipeg at a noontime show.  It was early for them they complained.  The show was free.  The second time was in a club called the Spectrum.  Four hundred people could fit in the place.  The TH put on a great show.  Later, they were playing in hockey arenas and they became such Canadian icons that sweatshirts bearing their name could be seen in a Walmart in Brandon.

Remembrance Day 2025

 ACU place, aka Keystone Centre.

The ceremony there was very well done.  Only one false note.  There was a good crowd there and it was well behaved.

My previous 11/11 in Canada was 22 years ago.  I remember I was at the legion in Mission, BC. I got to speak to an actual Korean War veteran who had been a POW captured by the Chinese PLA.

My son Tony accompanied me.  He didn’t have a sufficient appreciation of the solemnity of the ceremony.  I just pray that he will mature and come to appreciate it.

Brandon General Hospital and the nearby Shoppers Drug Mart

 My father died here.

Tony and I were across the street here:

…when he died.

Bad timing that still haunts me,

Street Yams

I saw yams when I took my Mom shopping. I recalled the street yams of China. Street vendors would sell heated yams to pedestrians going to work.  They were delicious.

Not done in Canada.

You see such decorations for Canadian National Day.

The photo was taken down the street from my wife’s second apartment.

Andis Kaulins 1977

The photo was taken in Shilo in 1977.  I put it into Grok to get the video.

Ten Hours Aho

We dropped off Jenny at the Airport. Ten hours later, she’s still on the page.
