Reading

Some things snatched from this morning’s reading:

When nothing is worthy of our respect in society, we

must carve out for ourselves new silent allegiances in solitude.

Resignation should not be the gymnastics of a stoic

but surrender into the hands of God.

I will not dance to every fool's pipe.

I will not keep a dog and bark myself.

—Más que la inmoralidad del mundo actual, es su creciente lo que incita a soñar en un claustro.

—More so than the immorality of the contemporary world, it is its growing ugliness that moves one to dream of a cloister.

—Es moderno lo que sea producto de un acto inicial de soberbia; es moderno lo que parezca permitirnos eludir la condición humana.

—Something is modern if it is the product of an initial act of pride; something is modern if it seems to allow us to escape the human condition.

David Warren:

…  It is time for the Church to forget this appalling stretch of her history — this “progressive” experiment, and most of the events in the last century of “reforms.”

Instead, we should gather to celebrate Christ the King — today, not wherever it was moved to by the “reformers.”

We are going to take a beating, as Our Lord has taken so many beatings over the last twenty centuries. But He tells us to stand, and take the beating yet again.

'The whole point about St Francis of Assisi is that he certainly was ascetical and he certainly was not gloomy.’
