Sunday 6:09 AM

I’ve been coming upon lots of news of towns in the area, towns that I have been to, preparing for swollen rivers by putting up sandbag dykes.

I’ll be working at a place near one of these dykes today.

“Winter’s thunder and Summer’s flood never boded Englishmen good.”

—Nadie tiene capital sentimental suficiente para

malgastar el entusiasmo.

—Nobody has so much sentimental capital that he can

afford to squander his enthusiasm.

Lord! Cure me of my contemptible disease of judging others. In the words of your Servant, Saint Patrick of Ireland, let me always recognize myself as “a sinner, most uncultivated and least of all the faithful, and despised in the eyes of many.”

Aubade: a poem about the early morning.
