I took my Mom grocery shopping at the Brandon Co-op grocery store. In the vegetable section this observation occurred to me:
In a Chinese supermarket, in the fruit and vegetable sections, there are clerks who will weigh the vegetables, lock up the packages, and then put a price label on them. Then you go to the cash registers to pay.
In Canada, they will weigh and price the fruit and veggies at the register; no designated weighers in the fruit and veggie section.
Which is better? Well, there are things to be said for both. I have felt relief at not having weigh my produce in the section and just having it done at register. However, there are no surprises when you are the register if you know what you’re going to pay beforehand.
