I meet an old friend

Bison

Bison once roamed the Manitoba plains in great abundance.  Not anymore.  Still, they are the symbol of Manitoba.

I saw some bison statues and some real bisons at Winnipeg’s Assiniboine park.

The artwork on the statue was done by a granddaughter of my cousin.

Our Majesty?

Since arriving in Canada on July 21st, I’ve been going to some supermarkets. I’ve seen lots of diversity and casual manners of self-presentation among the legacy population.  Tis not a pretty sight.  Having spent so much time in Chinese malls and supermarkets, walking into a Canadian supermarket is disconcerting.  It will take some time for me to get accustomed to the once familiar, now eerily exotic sights.

I saw that the supermarkets still sold magazines.  One magazine cover for an issue dedicated to King Charles used the words “Our majesty” .  I found this to be a strange use of a possessive with the word “majesty.” I would have expected King Charles to be called “his majesty.”; as his mother was called “her majesty.”  Is the use of “our” meant to deny Charles’ maleness as has become the fashion among present-day progressives?

Can I even bring this question up now that I am in Canada?
