Lunch with Weiming Zhao

We were at the Sushi Hut.  First time to go to a Sushi Restaurant since……

China!

A good time was had by all.  Conversation was far ranging.  I now have to search for a biography of the evangelist Billy Graham because, lime me, he married a Jiangsu girl.

Wei Ming is very busy will commissions.

Recently, I took a cruise on Clear Lake and this blog, I published a photo of the boat we took. The painting I published of the boat had been painted by Wei Ming earlier that day.

I kicked myself for not having asked the skipper of the boat, the Martisse, where it had been built and how it was taken to Clear Lake.

8:30 PM View

 It’s a storming out there.

Nice to see Fauci getting grilled.  The son of bitch pleading the fifth and hiding behind a bevy of lawyers.

12:05 PM View

I did get up early this morning so I could make some money, but I was a little rushed and so I didn’t take the standard obligatory mandatory view photo. With deep and humble regretting, I humbly and profusely apologize for this oversight.  I hope no one was inconvenienced by my grave and heinous misstep that was truly committed by me and not anybody else.

I also apologize for this overwordy apology.

You can go pound sand if you are expecting monetary compensation.

I lead a curiously distracted life with peculiar dangers, the worst of are my eccentricities.

I’m sitting in the basement, waiting for a Twenix class.  I’ve had one already this morning. I learned about the famous football academy in Barcelona and the Catalan custom of human towers:

Why can’t they do this in Brandon?

The Red Lion Bar in Wuxi is experiencing drama.  The Australian founders say they were pushed out; the Chinese partners say the Ozzies left with all the money.

Big news from Wuxi for Wuxi Expats

My son had his first job there.

I spent many an evening there.

I suppose it had to come to an end some time.  Stewart, I believe, had no intention of spending his last days in China.

And the streak goes on!

What can I say? How many years?

Tuesday 6:48 AM

Hazy this morning.  An effect I haven’t seen in a while…

Meanwhile some photos I posted on Facebook:

Monday 3:37 PM

Better late than never for this day of bligging-blagging-blogging.

Highlights of the day: went to B.U., bought some beard oil, and I am about to take a nap.

Later: the nap was okay but I was in danger of falling into grogginess.  I don't need that to happen when I got online classes to do tonight.

On the weekend, I met a lady from Labrador, which she told me is apart from Newfoundland, which is an island.   38,000 people live in Labrador which would like to be its on own separate from Newfoundland and Quebec (which claims it as part of its territory).  She mentioned other details like L getting a paved road about ten years ago for a six hour trip between its two biggest metropolises.

The other separatist movement I heard of recently is that of the Catalans from Spain.  At least two students have told me about it.  The Catalans consider themselves to be a separate culture from the Spanish.  Strangely though, the capital of Spain, Barcelona, is in Catalonia.  No benefit to Catalans apparently because the national government resents their separatist sentiment.

Sunday 19:00 Mass: Selfie with Father Oliver

Tired with a wandering mind, I attended the Sunday evening Mass at Saint Augustine’s.  Receiving the Eucharist made it very worthwhile.

It was also very providential (I pray I am using this word correctly) that I attended the last Mass presided by Father Oliver at Saint Augustine.  He will still be in the SW MB area but my chances of seeing him will be considerably reduced.  When he mentioned it was his last Mass at Staug, I had to take a selfie with him afterwards.

The gentleman in the center is Patrick.  A gentleman I with whom I have made acquaintance at Staug.

Okay now!

 It’s just hot now.

Crappy Weather

There’s a breeze and it looks like it might rain.  I hate doing this job outside.

Saturday 8:20 AM

What so late?  I had a long day yesterday.  Eight hour shift and two hours of on line classes.  I felt it this morning: groggy and stiff of body. I won’t go to Mass this morning.  God! Please forgive me!  I will go tonight.

Mosquitoes

 Too many in Brandon apparently.

Mowing her lawn, one woman told me, a cloud of them attacked her.

Another woman tells she is having a hard time finding mosquito stuff.

McD’s behind Shopping Cart

My view after I got kicked out of the store.  Someone instead of putting the cart in the rack pushed it to the front of the store door.

Got to work to earn my keep.

Saturday 5:30 AM

A long day today for me.  Two classes and an eight hour fund raising shift.

Cruising on Clear Lake

The Martisse

Nice, but the mosquitoes were annoying.

Reading at the Lake

The problem with Democracy is that the majority decide. And the majority of men are wicked. (and a supermajority of humans)

Clear Lake

We’re at Clear Lake: an hour’s drive north of Brandon.  I’ve bought tickets for a cruise boat.  Wuxi, Hangzhou, Chongqing, and soon Clear Lake.

Friday 6:53 AM

It rained early this morning.  Weather app tells me it is going to clear up and it will be a scorcher.

I have a 7:30 AM class this morning with Spain, a woman named Maria

Some time this morning, we drive to Riding Mountain National Park.  It will almost be a complete day off for me.

Dad’s birthday

If you can read the grave stone, you’ll see that today is my Dad’s birthday.  So we paid a visit and brought flowers.

I thought to further honor Dad by bringing out a Latvian flag.  However, there was a breeze.

Thursday 5:20 AM

I have to admit that getting up this early isn’t so easy with Jenny here.  She keeps me up way past my bed time.

WC fallout: I enjoyed the tournament and found the final to be enthralling.  I often myself cheering for justice and drama.  The circus and soap opera aspects of football suck me in..

Wednesday 6:12 AM

Good morning my extremely rare readers.  I hope you have a good one!

Tuesday, July 21, 2026

Two other books I have recently acquired

The first book I have been stealing passages from and placing in this blog.  I heard of the book reading David Warren’s Essays in Idleness Blog.  The book, apparently, was an inspiration for the blog’s title.  To retire to a secluded hut in order to meditate, write and contemplate.  That would be a life…

The second book I also heard of from DW’s EiI blog. The other book of aphorisms I heard of thanks to EiI were those of NGD.

I got the books on Amazon.
